2025-03-28 19:15:44ian@mastodon.radio12Success!This week's entry in the 52-week Ham Radio Challenge is to make a contact from an unusual location and post a picture!I haven't managed to go anywhere truly interesting with a radio this week, BUT, I bet not too many people have done a POTA activation sat on top of a giant wooden ant sculpture. So, here's this from today.HC13S
2025-03-29 15:41:59n8dmt@mastodon.radio16Success!Completed an unusual location QSO with John K9WIC on morning of March 14. Was up on the fifth floor of a senior independent living facility and looking out the south side window onto the golf course below. Repeater was a-bit north of this location — suspecting backscatter/reflections helped to complete this 2m contact.HC13S #HamChallenge #HamRadio(Repost with added inclusions for the ham challenge report/boost.)
2025-03-30 19:58:10DC4LW@social.darc.de13Working on it...I'm really struggling with this week's #hamchallenge HC13. I cannot think of an "unusual location" for doing a QSO. I would do a QSO from quite everywhere as long as it is not risky. So, I think, I'll skip this challenge for the time being and probably I'll find a suitable location later on this year. @hamchallenge
2025-03-30 20:37:14g7kse@mastodon.radio12Success!So my HC13S is probably not a win. Because there's no real photo..I started a new OTA. It's called Livestock pens on the air. The downside is that your feet smell a bit rural as a minimum.I got permission from a local farmer to go to the top of a local high spot. So, cycled up there and did my thing. The closest thing I have for evidence is this....my windswept bonse and an APRS digipeater wedged in some fencing before I did some testing.@hamchallenge
2025-04-01 16:45:36pg4i@mastodon.radio10Success!#hamchallenge HC13SLast week I made 61 QSO's from an unusual location: the second highest SOTA summit in the Netherlands at 101 meters. Story at https://reflector.sota.org.uk/t/first-sota-close-to-home-from-pa-pa-006/37784
