2025-03-10 10:58:17g7kse@mastodon.radio8Working on it...HC11 tipSatNOGS is a network of distributed satellite receivers. The APT satellites can be scheduled to receive weather sat data in various locations The network has been running for a while and is a really good way to explore not just the ham sats. Telemetry is plonked on dashboardshttps://satnogs.org/
2025-03-11 08:04:45mischk@bunt.social9Working on it...Prepared my computer for receiving a weather satellite image from NOAA-18, which will fly over later. Installed drivers and software for SDR dongle, configured SDR++ so that I am ready to record the signal when I am outside later. HC11 @hamchallenge
2025-03-12 08:39:36mischk@bunt.social9Working on it...Unfortunately, I didn't receive anything. I used the antenna supplied with the RTL SDR stick. Maybe you need a more precisely tuned antenna? Or the Statellit was not transmitting? I thought I was receiving at least a weak signal... Any ideas? HC11 #hamchallenge #amateurradio #noaa #swl #rtlsdr

2025-03-12 22:34:22DJ3CE@social.darc.de7Success!Thanks @mischk, your #hamchallenge report motivated me to do a NOAA sat agn (and get s.th. ready for decoding agn).Doppler-shift never fails to draw beautiful waterfall graphs :). But regarding the received image there's a long way to go until I get anywhere near my personal NOAA-reference @M0PWX ;).Setup: Ant 2m-groundplane located behind a window, gqrx & gpredict (big thanks, Alexandru Csete!) and aptdec. That's kind-of HC11S … still trying to catch up with other weeks.

2025-03-15 17:00:06ei7ijb@mastodon.radio4Working on it...I’m very late to the 11th challenge, 'Receive a weather satellite image’. Onwards to the next week, I guess #hamchallenge HC11 @hamchallenge
2025-03-15 22:19:40fl_0@geraffel.social2Success!Decoded audio file using #aptdec and applying false color palette resulted in a rather nice (part of the) image.#HC11S https://geraffel.social/@fl_0/114168487157381360
2025-03-16 16:21:52stu@gott.social8Working on it...#HC11, NOAA-19 just made a pass overhead. With my SDR finally working I tuned in to 137.1 MHz. As the satellite transited above 45° I saw an absolutely clear signal trace in the waterfall. But I couldn't pick it out of the noise floor. I knew my antenna type and placement was suboptimal, so now to think on how to adjust things.
2025-03-16 21:08:23DC4LW@social.darc.de12Working on it...I almost wanted to skip #HC11 - but then I checked the NOAA passes, saw that No 19 will be clearly visible from my backyard window in almost 10 minutes. I decided to start SDRangel which helps with a lot of presets. Set my RTL-SDR receiver on the window sill and tried to receive something. But nothing is visible. SDRangel crashed several times. And probably I missed some setting to compensate the Doppler-Shift. #hamchallenge

2025-03-16 21:15:24DC4LW@social.darc.de12Working on it...And just after writing about it, I found the problem with the Doppler setting. Unfortunately too late for the pass of NOAA-18 right after NOAA-19. I should give it another try during the next days when there are proper passes again. #hamchallenge HC11
