2025-04-21 16:46:50g7kse@mastodon.radio14Success!Its been raining here in IO84 so no #sota for me today. So I looked at week 17, which is all about repeaters. My closest is 4 miles away, which is only possible to access via a hotspot because of the geography. We are on the opposite sides of the same hill.My strongest repeater is GB3GD on the Isle of Man, 40 miles away across the Irish sea. Always 59+.The last repeater is actually a LoRa APRS digipeater on 70cm that is on a nearby summit. Perfect position for Wasdale.HC17S
2025-04-21 17:04:52df5go@radiosocial.de14Working on it...My go-to resources for VHF/UHF repeaters are the phone app Repeater-Book and the website https://repeatermap.de/The closest repeater to my home QTH is DB0BLX which is a quite new one and I have not used it yet. I mainly use DB0SX which is a bit further away, but people from my local club usually meet there. #HC17 #HamChallenge #amateurradio #hamradio #amateurfunk
2025-04-21 17:40:55siwli@toot.berlin10Working on it...I used https://repeatermap.de/ to check for FM repeaters close to where I live and found that since the beginning of the year, there is DB0BLX in the middle of Berlin. Can't try using it since I'm not at home currently but will try when I'm back. #hamchallenge HC17 @hamchallenge
2025-04-21 18:15:59dd1mat@mastodon.social12Success!Ham Radio Challenge 2025 - Week 17: Which VHF/UHF repeater is closest to your location?DB0HBG is the closest repeater, run by my local club. We use wind power and solar energy to operate the repeater independently.HC17S #HamChallenge #amateurradio #hamradio #amateurfunk
2025-04-22 00:30:35stu@gott.social10Success!#HC17S the closest repeater to me is WA4USN, the Yorktown repeater. She's only one of two repeaters I seem to be able to reach from my location. She's a fickle mistress. I get constant complaints that my audio is super quiet when I check in to the local nets.
2025-04-23 22:38:03DJ3CE@social.darc.de12Success!For #hamchallenge HC17S I relied on data from https://repeatermap.de (Thanks to DK3ML for this resource!). While the nearest FM repeaters are well known (1.3km for 70cm, 16km for 2m), I got some interesting other nearest ones, depending on mode and band. For ATV on 70cm the nearest one seems to be about 440km away (DB0BC), while the nearest 2m DMR repeater seems to be just about 90km away... @hamchallenge
2025-04-24 11:30:34bgarfoot@kind.social11Success!It's been a very hot minute since I've participated in the Ham Challenge, due to a wide variety of factors. But I can definitely call this a HC17S.The closest VHF (2 meter) repeater to me is the W8VY 00 repeater (147.000), at just over a mile away. We're also looking at moving our 220 repeater to the same tower site, but the club needs a qualified climber first.
2025-04-24 15:37:58n8dmt@mastodon.radio18Success!HC17S What VHF/UHF repeater is closest to your location (and how did you determine this)?Using RepeaterBook App on iPad with GPS enabled yielded my location in the title bar, then searched for closest repeaters of any type to meet this challenge.Closest repeater at 5.3 Miles NE of me is N9IVM FM / Algonquin, IL on 444.025 MHz, +5.0 MHz, 103.5 Hz PL. Repeater is very strong here at my QTH. Have made several local QSO’s on this machine.#HamRadio #HamChallenge
2025-04-25 09:35:24literatesavant@mastodon.au6Success!Week 17 of the #hamradio #hamchallenge (HC17S) is to find the repeater closes to you. Technically, the one closest to me is VK3RDQ, but I can't hear it from my location. This is perhaps not surprising, as it is only 68m elevation. The next closest is probably VK3RML or VK3RMS. I can hear their IDs from here with my HT. However, like in many places these days, there is very little activity on any of these repeaters. There are at least seven which are probably reachable from the metro Melbourne ar
2025-04-26 13:28:24ei7ijb@mastodon.radio6Success!For the 17th challenge, 'Which VHF/UHF repeater is closest to your location?’, I called into the 2 EI repeaters as the crow flies. The UHF, EI7TRR, was quiet and my calls couldn't be heard as confirmed by my SDRC club member, Joe EI3JVB, who was listening on the repeater. The VHF, EI2TRR, was also quiet and I was called back by 2 of my SDRC club members, Keith EI5KO & Paraic EI2LH. I will try to call often on the repeaters since Simplex is difficult from my QTH. #hamchallenge HC17S @hamchallenge
2025-04-27 04:35:14K3LOE@mastodon.radio6Success!This week's #HamChallenge: "Which VHF/UHF repeater is closest to your location?" The closest one is the first one I ever made contact on is the one run by my favorite college club, W4ATC at NC State. https://w4atc.ncsu.edu And I DID make a contact on it this week, while staring at its antenna farm from a parking deck where I was operating FT8 on 10m.The geolocation feature of the Repeaterbook app lists repeaters by distance. #HC17S https://hamchallenge.org/2025/17
2025-04-28 21:32:45ian@mastodon.radio15Success!Ham Radio Challenge Week 17 is to find out about your closest repeater. Per Repeaterbook, that's GB3PB around 4 miles away. I receive it and it receives me just fine, but like most repeaters there's rarely much activity. (I'd be the change I want to see in the world, but honestly VHF repeaters don't interest me that much.) There's also local gateways MB7IPD and M0IDL within a couple of miles.#HamChallenge HC17S
2025-04-28 22:39:51w8emv@mastodon.radio2Success!Ham Radio Challenge Week 17 - find your closest repeater.Closest is a semi-private low power AllStarLink node on UHF a few blocks away, two VHF repeaters (#W8RP and #W8UM) with active nets, and the odd UHF to 10 meter band repeater also #W8UM . Line of sight if you are up high enough are a UHF and a VHF repeater on a county tower, the VHF (#N8DUY) can be heard in a 10-county area plus parts of Canada.A good guide is from #W8SRC https://www.kb6nu.com/the-kd8lwr-repeater-guide/#hamchallenge HC17S
