2025-02-26 12:49:27 | K3LOE@mastodon.radio | 4 | Working on it... | @peterdrake No, but I imagine a lot of people will be doing that for the first time next week. Squirting the birds is the #HamChallenge for week 10! Now that I have the proper idioms, I just need an antenna. #HC10 #amsat |
2025-03-02 21:50:32 | df7cb@mastodon.social | 7 | Success! | I made my first LEO satellite QSOs today 🚀! 3x CW on RS-44 to SV, OM and 9H. Doppler was manageable, the actual hard part was holding the antenna for the whole pass 💪 ... HC10S #hamchallenge |
2025-03-03 03:42:07 | stu@gott.social | 8 | Working on it... | With last week's still open, I'm looking ahead to #HC10. While i'm sure the ISS counts as an amateur radio satellite, I'm choosing to ignore that one. Why? Because I already listen to and track the ISS constantly. To me the Ham Challenge is about learning and trying new things. So this week I will track AMSAT-OSCAR-7. This space machine has quite a storied history! One downlink is 29.4-5 MHz. Wait a sec... Does that count a 10m repeater? 😂#AmateurRadio #HamRadio |
2025-03-03 09:56:44 | pg4i@mastodon.radio | 7 | Working on it... | #hamchallenge HC10This morning I used the hamclock satellite planner to spot AO7, frequency between 29.400 and 29.500. It was a 20 minute pass but no stations heard. Is this satellite still in use? |
2025-03-05 10:13:08 | mischk@bunt.social | 9 | Working on it... | Building a 70cm Yagi for HC10. Very curious if it will work... #hamchallenge #amateurradio |
2025-03-06 12:16:10 | stu@gott.social | 8 | Working on it... | #HC10. Still working on this one. I'm using an Android app called "ISS detector", which has a for-purchase extension to track all ham radio satellites. I'm perfectly aware of where Oscar 7 is in the sky, I just can't detect a signal.I either need to stalk a different satellite or get around to building a Yagi.Another tool worth looking at is stellarium by the way. |
2025-03-06 16:01:33 | mischk@bunt.social | 9 | Working on it... | First try outdoors, failed: there where no FM transponders over my QTH. I tried at least to hear a beacon or something, but only background noise. But Ill try it again, there is a satellite with an FM transponder over Berlin in around an hour. HC10 |
2025-03-06 17:51:44 | mischk@bunt.social | 9 | Working on it... | second try also failed. I heard nothing but noise. Are there more crowded satellites? Or some more accessible than others? I listened to FM transponders. I dont have the gear to listen to SSB or CW... HC10 |
2025-03-07 20:35:48 | ei7ijb@mastodon.radio | 4 | Working on it... | I believe that I have the ability to listen to an amateur satellite for the 10th challenge, 'Listen to an amateur radio satellite’. Here I go ! #hamchallenge HC10 @hamchallenge |
2025-03-08 00:03:09 | DC4LW@social.darc.de | 12 | Success! | Succeeded in #hamchallenge HC10S twice this evening. We used my self made cross yagi antenna for 70cm and 2m. On top there is a mount for my phone with GoSatWatch attached for satellite tracking. We had a pass of SO-124 (HADES-R) in downtown Berlin where we barely heard someone from Poland. Without a duplexer and two handheld radios I was even able to hear myself calling CQ! And later on we heard the ISS with QSOs from Italy. I did not want to interrupt, so listen only.@hamchallenge |
2025-03-09 08:54:29 | DJ5CW@social.darc.de | 9 | Working on it... | And on RS44, I heard F5JLQ calling CQ on CW. I was not able to reply this time (need to figure out how to set the FT857 to do cross band split) but this really gave me an adrenaline boost this morning! #hamchallenge #hamradio #morsecode #HC10 |
2025-03-09 08:54:29 | DJ5CW@social.darc.de | 9 | Success! | My first foray back into #hamradio #satellites since my last AO40 QSOs around 2004, so I can claim success for #hamchallenge week 10: I just heard the CW beacon of CUTE-1 on 436.836 MHz, using my FT857 and a single element quad antenna that peeked out of my attic window. The pass was at 22° elevation only and I could only briefly hear it close to the peak, but it was clearly there and had the expected doppler shift. #HC10S @hamchallenge |
2025-03-09 12:25:51 | ian@mastodon.radio | 11 | Success! | No luck on VHF/UHF satellites so far (ISS & SO-50 passes are mostly during the night for me this weekend) but I will keep trying. I did discover QO-100 via the Goonhilly WebSDR though and listened in, so I guess that's a success.HC10SI never realised there was an amateur band repeater in GEO with >8MHz of bandwidth, it's so huge it has its own band plan! Heard a CQ call from YI1YJK, first time I have ever heard Iraq on the ham bands. Might have to build some kit for this one day. |
2025-03-09 15:23:12 | g7kse@mastodon.radio | 8 | Working on it... | HC10 is a work in progress. Can't seem to RX Oscar 100 beacon with my dish and LNB. Took it to a friend's place and proved it works with their dish and LNB but no luck here.Going to have to check everything again. Hoping that my QTH isn't the problem. It usually is.LEO sats are not a problem I might have inadvertently helped with a previous challenge by explaining to the local street urchins what was happening. We listened to the aircraft overhead @hamchallenge |
2025-03-10 07:00:53 | mischk@bunt.social | 9 | Working on it... | because I was not lucky with HC10 and my self build yagi, i did some more research this morning and found https://amsat-uk.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/work_fm_sats-20131010.pdf. They say its also possible to work the sat with an HT and a whip antenna. SO-50 had a fly by so I went outside and gave it a try with my AT-D878UVII and the Diamond SRJ77 Antenna. I pointed my HT to the right direction and constantly adjusted RX frequency. I was able to hear someone calling their callsign. 🛰️😎✅ HC10S |

2025-03-11 00:35:00 | n8dmt@mastodon.radio | 12 | Working on it... | #HamChallenge HC10 Tried to receive LILAC Sat 437.2 downlink at ~1800 local using HT with 14” flexi-whip with tiger-tail dangling counterpoise. Was a 12 deg max pass. Had a second radio on RX with open squelch. Believe heard very weak voices in the received noise. No calls or even discernible words. Will try again soon. #HamRadio #HamSats |

2025-03-12 12:20:58 | fl_0@geraffel.social | 2 | Success! | Made 5 contacts on AO-7 for the #HB9RGTrophy. That should also be valid for ham challenge week 10 I guess :) #HC10S #amsat #hamradio |
2025-03-12 14:26:10 | n8dmt@mastodon.radio | 12 | Success! | #HamChallenge HC10S. Setup Yaesu VX8-DR to monitor APRS on 145.825 with plan to listen to evening ISS pass (and possibly second pass later in evening). Didn’t hear anyone on first pass (puzzled at this), but left radio monitoring sitting on a table inside to see what second pass might yield. This morning found 8 stations in the heard log. Used Diamond SRH940 multi band antenna with DIY tiger-tail counterpoise wire. Will continue monitoring as time permits. More fun ahead. 73 |
2025-03-16 15:26:46 | stu@gott.social | 8 | Working on it... | #HC10 with a new dongle in hand, and after some fiddling, I've got a really solid SDR setup. I had to move from raspberry pi to laptop for , so it'd be klunky to relocate this arrangement. Also, thunderstorms today. Here's to hoping that 3:15PM pass of HOPE-1 can be heard from indoors. I'm specifically targeting CW becaons so I can observe Doppler shift.Meanwhile, time to check when the NOAA birds wander by and muddle through that as well. |
