2025-05-13 09:50:27 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 44 | Success! | I made some software rendering pixel fonts into audio and I TXed a #qrss signal. RXed my own on the grabbers, and the common ones on 30m. Does this count as a threefer for the #hamchallenge? (44, 46 and 48).

In Romania, calls are allocated on the basis of unique suffixes. If someone requests YO9GND, I can't request YO3GND. We refer to each other on suffix alone.
That 9GND call was not renewed and released back to the pool in Aug 2022. I picked it up in 2023. No idea I was this close - until today.
Mr. Ariciu, the previous GND lessee, as the public record states, is living in Prahova. I couldn't find anything in old contest scores, logs, or magazines. Not even a qrz page. |

2025-05-16 10:58:04 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 19 | Success! | Fine. really wants the rest of the simulations for #HC19S 6/xSetup 2 is just like Setup 1, except the radiator is now straight. So we have:- Uneven radials, varying between 80 and 120% of the length I use- the radials cover only 270° and have variations of a few degrees from their ideal locationI'm omitting the donut here and posting a comparative view with setup 1 (red) vs this one (blue)Z = 56.2 - j8.45ΩSWR 1.22 @ 50Ω 14.13 MHzRadiation eff 24.02% |

2025-05-16 11:13:05 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 19 | Success! | 7/x Setup 3: radials are evenly spaced, uneven length (the spacing gap is around the coax in the field)#hamchallenge #HC19S Z = 56 - j10.8ΩSWR 1.26 @ 50Ω 14.13 MHzRad eff 24.06%Concluding this series of 4 sims:- each step closer to ideal helps a tiny amount: better match, lower SWR, deeper null, symmetric lobes- The compromised version seems fine for /P, since all these optimizations take time on the field and seem worthless, especially for time constrained operations. |

2025-05-19 00:42:26 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 29 | Success! | Let's try a 10fer for : :alex_crazy: I went out today for POTA RO-0109 #HC29S in front of this communist mammoth #HC13S, operated all day on 36Ah #HC36S (ha!). I worked one DX, the ITU HQ, out of today's DXpeds PJ4M, VP8DPD and V73MT #HC07S, 14 DXCCs #HC37s, plus all xOTA #HC16S I heard. I had 20 contacts on CW #HC38S including @YO3AX and @G0TRT. I even heard F4JRC on 6m #HC28S. I fixed my audio card #HC45S and used the antenna I built with the YL #HC33S.Details follow. |
2025-05-19 00:50:27 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 13 | Success! | POTA RO-0109, The People's Palace, built on labour of communist political prisoners houses The Contemporary Art Museum. It is 270 by 240 by 90 meters tall, with another 90 meters of sub basements. Another less useful thing it houses beyond the museum is the Parliament and its two chambers. There was a flurry of activity today in the park: today was a rerun of our presidential elections. I nominate this for an unusual location #HC13S. |

2025-05-19 00:56:28 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 45 | Success! | #HC45S Before I used to activate with the SCU-17, I had a cheap $3 soundcard whose contacts I kept resoldering. Today I fixed it #HC45S and incorporated it into a SlimDigi. This is a neat design for a soundcard + hub for CAT on 891, which is tiny and uses USB-C. All credits go to LB8IJ. The choice of parts is great and while I'm not a fan of cables embedded in a device without a connector, I love how fast it is to deploy.https://www.printables.com/model/1235849-slimdigi-by-lb8ij-digital-interface |

2025-05-19 01:20:31 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 36 | Success! | My usual setup involves a suitcase with 2 pcs 18Ah LFP4s in parallel with some 3D printed bulkhead connectors. The suitcase acts as a makeshift desk #HC36S. I don't operate much from home, so these 6 hours were a whole day operation.I was surprised only 3 DXpeds were active, but a fourth DX, the ITU HQ was lurking on 18MHz. #HC07S. Working 10+ DXCCs is rather easy in FT8 from Europe, when you're being chased in #pota #HC37s#hamchallenge |

2025-05-19 01:32:32 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 28 | Success! | The condx were terrible and I really, really hoped for a 6m qso, but nothing happened. I did hear F4JRC, about 2000 km away on the magic band #HC28S.Contacting other xOTA station wasn't as easy as the usual P2P or P2S, but I did get ~15 in the log, not counting multiple parks and multiple ops setups. #HC16SI even had some CW qsos with other hams with whom I share this instance #HC38S, but I couldn't find someone for #HC30 #hamchallenge |

2025-05-19 10:41:29 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 47 | Success! | #HC47S Run a POTA marathon during a solar storm Kp 5/6/7 (easy/med/hard). One of the oddest and most enjoyable things I did in March 2024 was running a POTA rover against the UTC clock while the Sun became angrier and angrier. From difficult contacts and decreasing reports, I had to arrange skeds for the last parks to keep it going.I even tried an activation in the autumn of 2025, with Kp=8. 20 stations in the log, FT8 only.@hamchallenge |
2025-05-19 10:42:30 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 47 | Success! | #HC47S Over the air collab games. Add the number from your call to a running total. The last person to post is the person who is hunted, and others have to work him. First come, first serve. If he's unavailable for more than a week, the previous caller returns in the game.Say Fabian starts, DJ5CW. I sked and he sends me the last number (0) plus the one from his call (0+5=5). He posts 5 under the challenge.I now have to sked or be hunted. I'll TX and post (5+3=)8.@hamchallenge |
2025-05-19 10:45:30 | yo3gnd@mastodon.radio | 47 | Success! | #HC47S Arrange for a greyline sked. Keep tabs of the signal reports during the whole window of opportunity and see how the signal booms in and fades out. For digimodes, you can either try a keyboard-to-keyboard mode which monitors the sig.al (Olivia, PSK, JS8) or try multiple exchanges on FT8/FT4.From Europe, the greyline lands on different US states at different parts of the year.@hamchallenge |
